The Daily Reset
It may sound dramatic. But daily walks have changed my life.
Since September, walking everyday has been a must for me. These walks have served as a means of exercise and a valid form of therapy, too. Getting outside everyday—rain or shine, to hear the birds chirping and to see the leaves on the trees glistening, has been life altering for me. I now call these walks my “daily reset.”
When the tasks at hand feel like too much, or my mood is just plain old sour—there’s nothing like a brisk walk to help straighten things out. Pair this walking with a prayer list—and you’ve got match made in Heaven.
Think about it. People have been doing this forever.
Walking has been a means of transportation and of seeing the world for ages. The exercise part of it was conveniently built in—as ancient cultures didn’t need to be quite so intentional as we moderns must. We sit far too much, don’t we.
The daily reset of walking outside in the midst of God’s creation genuinely helps to put things into perspective. I breath in His fresh air and remember He is God, and I am not. He made all of this, and I did not. He is my Provider and Sustainer, holding this entire beautiful space together in the palm of His hand. My thinking gets shifted, my heart gets recalibrated, and my perspective is essentially reset.
As homemakers, there are times when the ‘to-do’ list is so long that it’s hard to know where to start. By 10:00 A.M., the hours start free-falling, and before we know it—it’s lunchtime. In the midst of it all, it often feels as if we couldn’t possibly afford a 1/2 hour walk through the neighborhood.
But I’m here to tell you that for me—I can’t afford not to.
This daily reset of walking, namely, doing daily prayer walks, have changed everything for me. If you find yourself a bit ‘stuck in the muck’—get yourself a good pair of tennies, grab your prayer list, and take that much needed walk.
It has the potential to change your day.
